In the age of Kings, nothing is left to rot; velvet and silk are the most famed materials of the kingdom, imported from places of the world mortals can only dream of. And in the midst of the crushed velvet and vibrant silk, a maiden raises her hands and claps to the rhythm of the flute, turning on her dainty feet, her gown rustling around her lithe body.
The dinasty of Charleton is dying; its only descendants left are an aged king and his queen, in a childless marriage. The country is divided, each lord standing under his own banner, waiting on the death of their ruler so war may errupt to claim the throne. There are those who could place their clame upon it half-rightfully; bastards of the king who will not get it through law alone. The Queen's brother also threatens to invade the kingdom and take the throne after her. Yet the first, and rightful ruler to the throne, is the King's niece, his brother's daughter, who has never before set foot inside court.
They know, the usurpers-to-be, that she may be the card they have all been waiting for. The battle for her regency has already begun. Women are said to be weak, their minds are easily controlled.
